Saffron and Genevieve is an antiques store. I sell other items but mainly antiques. Antiques store is a general term, most dealers consider an antique to be an object of value over one hundred years old. If you’re into “antiques”, you probably have a preference of style, era, or maybe you are into collectibles, all of which are sold in various antique stores. I don’t sell collectibles so I will leave them out of this. If you’re not into antiques, you may you have a negative connotation in your head about your grandmothers antiques, or what you grew up with. Perhaps you hear the word and think “ewww, fancy, scroll-y, precious furniture is not my thing.” Maybe you have seen your fair share of refinished to look like new American oak from the turn of the century. These are not my thing either. They just aren’t, vive la différence. What I do sell – because it’s what I love – is George III. Simple, perfect in scale, gorgeous original patina, lovely woods such as English oak, mahogany, walnut, chests of drawers that will last many lifetimes, they are already 200 years old are my thing.
I’m here in the shop tonight, waxing a killer secretary and thinking how interesting it is that I can love an inanimate object so much.
Here is a small collection of the friends I have had over the years (taken in the space where I purchased, they still look great!)
Yes, I also sell primitives, some French, industrial and such but these all play well with others, in almost any home.
