Stash Studios We’d probably all agree that visioning and creating a bag or a painting or a photo or a piece of music constitutes creating art on some level. But I’m going to take it further and say that creating a shop can also be creating art. And maintaining that shop is like curating an ongoing, ever-changing exhibit. Any type of shop that has a unique vibe, that strives to bring together a broad range of elements in a creative way, that makes me think of and desire objects in a new way and with a new appreciation is a well-curated shop. Saffron and Genevieve is a shop curated by the lovely Scarlett Reed and based in Santa Cruz, California. And the sign shown at the top of the page was taken from her shop. (Love the sentiment Scarlett).

cabin on the water What can I tell you about this shop, it is gorgeous! I saw so many things I wanted – chief among them are these wonderfully macabre baby doll lights. Colleen has so many things I just haven’t seen elsewhere.
From Metro Santa Cruz: Filled with hand-picked antique chairs, tables, desks and armoires from antique fairs all over the country, Saffron & Genevieve ain’t exactly thrift, but owner Colleen Hickey is an expert at repurposing, reupholstering, with an eye for whimsy.
paper pony One of my ritual stops when I’m at home is this lovely store, Saffron and Genevieve. From the first time I stepped through the doors I was entranced. What I love most about this store is that it is constantly changing as she brings in new items from her travels. Most of her objects are unique finds, but she also carries some great lines like Juliska ceramics, an assortment of beauty products, candles, cards, etc…If you are ever in Santa Cruz be sure to stop by. You may find a treasure and you will definitely find some inspiration.
